5 Ways to Instant-Insta Success!
Instagram is my favourite social media platform. To me, it’s fun, engaging, shows personality, allows creativity and it’s providing more and more chances to builds sales and promotional opportunities.
According to Influence Marketing Hub, the top Instagram influencers include: Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylie Jenner, Beyonce and Rihanna who individually, have millions of followers.
Followers = (potential) customers. Customers who will use your services and purchase your products so it is safe to say that Instagram has a huge influence on buying habits and brand perception.
Instagram is all about communicating visually and it is evolving all the time, with its photo taking and sharing, live TV, DM’s (direct messaging) plus the chance to use facial filters… and much more.
Created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Instagram launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app and the service has rapidly gained popularity. According to eMarketer’s research, Instagram will have 26.9 million users join the platform by 2020 which is almost double the projected growth of other social media platforms.
Here are five ideas and observations from me, sharing what it takes to make your profile a success….
One: Visual representation
We use words to explain who we are and what we do but what about creating visual representations instead?
If you bake cakes, run a fashion business or you’re a landscape gardener – use photos on Instagram to tell people. Think of ways that you can represent your business with your Instagram account.
Make your photos clear, colourful, not dark, distorted or blurry!
A word to the wise – if you are taking photos of other people that you want to use on your social media, ensure that you have asked for permission, as per the latest data protection rules!
Two: Instagram creates communities:
The power of social media is based on creating communities and Instagram is a great example.
If you love exercise, music, cooking, gardening and knitting – the list goes on…you can find an Instagram page that has been created by someone who has the same passion and enthusiasm for a hobby / interest, as you.
This creates a community of like minded people who can share knowledge and it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. This is priceless.
Three: Create interaction
When you post a photo or video – people can comment and share their approval (or sometimes disapproval).
It is often said that “a picture is worth a thousand words” so think about how you can get people talking to you based on the content you share on Instagram.
Insta continues to create new and inventive ways so your followers can interact with you.
Use your Insta story to create polls, countdowns to a special event, add a GIF, share what you’re listening to or watching, share a quote of the day and reveal which three accounts others should follow.
My advice: experiment and be creative to see the types of reactions and comments you’ll receive – it’s a lot of fun!
Four: Share a story and journey
It’s great to post the odd photo now and again but think about how you can share a story with your follower. How can you take the follower on a journey?
If you are launching a new product – perhaps you can count down to the launch and reveal some visual cues and examples to entice people to engage with you on a regular basis, building the suspense until you’re ready for the ‘big reveal’!
Think about how you can tell the story of your day in a visually stimulating way, like a ‘behind the scenes’ insight, to invite your audience to connect with you.
Five: Browse & Buy
Instagram doesn’t just look pretty – it drives customer sales because it has the power to bring customers to your brand using a normal post or a targeted advert. For example, share a picture of shoes that you sell and include the price of them and a hyperlink.
This link can take the user directly to a website to purchase the shoes. Not only are you saying to the follower – take a look at this.
You’re also saying – here’s how to purchase the item too. Genius!
